Preventative Dentistry
We encourage preventative techniques – helping you to understand how to maintain the health of your mouth and keep it free from tooth decay and gum disease.
Dental Hygienists are specially trained members of the dental team. They have two main roles; teaching patients’ oral hygiene techniques and scaling and polishing teeth. They work with the dentist to meet your specific needs.
When are patients referred to our Hygienists?
When they have plaque in their mouths as this is an indication that damage is being done
Why is it important to see a Hygienist?
- We now know that 90% of the work a dentist does can be prevented with good hygiene care.
- Our Hygienists work with our patients’ to give them the skills and good habits they need to help prevent future dental problems and treatments, including healthy diet advice.
- Our Hygienists will show you the skills, tools and techniques to remove plaque form every surface of every tooth, every day.
- Good dental health means patients are at a lower risk of future dental pain and problems, fresher breath and better looking smile, less likely to lose teeth, better heart and organ health.
